Day 6 – Rothenberg – Hot, Hot Rothenberg

I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but that was a hot night! Man! We did get some decent air movement in our room with the windows open and fan running, but from the talk at breakfast, some people had it rougher in their rooms. We were lucky I think!

We were still excited to be there!

We had breakfast and then met Alica and Melanie.

This was outside our hotel. The Eisenhut! Or iron hat!

We were split into two groups for today’s activities so we would fit better.

The first activity was pretzel making!

We all walked down to the pretzel place together.

It was called Schneeballentraume!  There must be schneeballs in there!

We actually walked past the pretzel place first so we could take pictures when it was relatively quiet at the crooked house!

Crooked house! Totes crooked.

Then we went back to the bakery!

The dough started like this –

Then went through a machine to get to this:

Then we rolled it out! The expert went first –

We’re rolling!  Rolling these out is so much harder than it looks! They are fat, dense little things that don’t want to get skinny!

I’m rolling!

Here we go!

We stepped outside while they cooked for water and Schneeballs!

Here are our masterpieces:

We are now pretzel pros. We have the paperwork to prove it.

We each made two pretzels and took them with us. My word hot pretzels are amazing.

We dropped some things off in the room and went to explore some more.

First we climbed the tower next to our hotel.

Soooooo many stairs. But worth it for the amazing views!

We could see our friends down there!

And then I took the same pictures over and over.

Then we climbed back down and walked some more.

We went into the beautiful cathedral. The town map was outside.

We also walked to the park.

Then we found some schnitzel for lunch and walked some more!

We went in Kathe Wohlfahrt. I didn’t realize we weren’t supposed to take pictures, so I took a couple on my phone before I knew.

This place was amazing! And HUGE.  There were too many rooms to count!  And it was air conditioned. So we stayed for a while.

Then we took a quick nap before our picture time!

We were going to dress up in medieval garb and take pictures! That sounds fun?

This was one of those things that I wasn’t really expecting to enjoy as much as I did. I didn’t even bring my camera. I was thinking it was one of those things that little kids would love. But adults?

Well spoiler alert – we loved it!!! Everyone had so much fun!! We laughed and posed for a million pictures!

It’s crazy down here!

And here I am! With a bow. Lol

And in prison.

This looks real, right?

Aren’t we cute?

Pictures are better with swords of course!

This is Stephen’s new official Air Force photo:

Then we – walked of course.

This time we were looking for ice cream. Found it!

Walking, eating and napping. It’s what we do.

These walking canes brought back so many childhood memories. We collected these everywhere we traveled in Europe when I was little. This could have been mine.

Our goal was the last part of the wall.

We ran into a few different groups of our fellow adventurers and stopped to chat frequently.

Eventually we came down from the wall!

This was the backside of the crooked house scene.

Then we went to the room for about an hour before dinner.

Dinner was in the hotel tonight!

We really enjoyed the group dinners!

Alica and Melanie bought us all little wrapped ornaments from next door, and we had an ornament exchange!

Stephen got a high heeled shoe! Perfect.

Mine!

We traded and ended up with this.

Dessert!

After all that fun, Alica and Melanie announced that tomorrow we were touring Bamberg before heading to Berlin, but because of the record temperatures expected, there was an alternate activity to the walking tour for anyone who wanted.

So more record temperatures. Excellent. Bring it.

They also announced they were taking the three junior adventurers to get ice cream without their parents! Which drew a cheer from the parents!

Dinner was long enough that it was bed time for us after!

Tomorrow was Bamberg, and then Berlin!
