Day 1 – Travel Day

Day 1 – Travel Day

Travel days to Europe equals the longest travel days ever where two days blend into one!  It was even worse this time coming from the West Coast.  Not complaining though!  Totally worth it!  I’m not going to lie, Europe is my favorite vacation destination.  I just spent a week in Alaska and a week in Jamaica.  I love the scenery and wildlife in Alaska, and I love the beautiful water and warmth of Jamaica, but Europe.  Sigh.  It’s my favorite.  Those are my people.  Well I guess they aren’t really my people (#merica) but they feel like my people!  At some point on this trip I vowed to take the kids and visit more regularly.

We spent the night in LA to be closer to the airport, but we still got up at 4:30.  We flew to Atlanta first which was a decently long flight.  I watched the Quiet Place!  I had been wanting to see it, but I was so afraid!  I figured the best place to watch a scary movie was in broad daylight on a 4 inch screen.

I was right!  It was so good!  Now I want to see it again when I’m not terrified of what is coming next.

These were our snack and these are absolutely horrible:

Stephen didn’t think they were that bad, but he’s wrong.  Don’t eat them.  These are the kind of valuable tips you get from my trip reports!

In Atlanta I saw a few people that I knew would be on our trip, and I talked to one of them, Mary, and her son for quite a while.  We were all so excited!

The flight from Atlanta was 8 1/2 hours.  I did like how Delta gave us a schedule of all the snacks and meals we would get.  I hate being on a long flight and wondering if I should drink my Coke Zero slowly or spread it out.  Delta laid it out!  Like – first a drink, then a snack, then a meal, then a drink, then a snack, then a light breakfast.

It appealed to the planner in me.

I don’t generally mind long flights.  I can get a couple of little naps in, I watch movies and I read so much!  It’s nice quiet, uninterrupted time.

Since this flight was going to count as our nighttime sleep, I did try to sleep as much as I could.  I probably got a couple of hours.  It could have been worse.

I also watched so many movies!  I don’t even remember them all.

This was dinner.  Chicken!

I think this was the coast of Greenland?

We landed a little before midnight our time, in the morning Germany time.
