Day 4 (Part 2) – Beer School and Soccer!

After the morning was over, we met up with the rest of our group for lunch and a beer tasting at the oldest brewery in world.

Interestingly, the tweeners weren’t excited about the alternate activity, a tour of the BMW plant. So the guides let them pick something else! They ended up at a hands on science museum and had a great time. The other guide had gone with them. That’s one of the beauties of having two guides, unlike a lot of tour groups where there is only one. There’s more flexibility!

We sat down in a big group.

Pretzels! Yay!

And –

I had beef stew for lunch.

We picked out our food the day before from a menu. If I had seen a picture of the mac and cheese, I probably would have gotten that! It looked yummy!

Here was our master brewer/beer instructor/dude. He had a degree in beer from the local university, believe it or not!

No worries though, they had Cola Light! He did not give us any instruction in pouring, tasting or drinking those! Ha!

The drinking began:

Here’s our table!

More of the beer dude.

This brewery was established in 1040!

Stephen enjoyed all of the “Stephen” references on the building and on the bottles!

Here are our pins so far! Today they gave us a pin of remembrance. The only pin that ABD gives that doesn’t have a character on it.

After a fun lunch, we rode back to the hotel.

Alica and Melanie gave us a list of conversational German words and phrases. I was quite pleased that I knew everything on this list! I retained some of it from my youth at least! But only a tiny bit. Basically this page. Ha!

Stephen and I took a nap for a little while and then the housekeeper knocked. We went to the lobby so they could clean. I ordered a coke for 6 euros plus tip. Yikes!

Tonight was dinner at Haufbrauhaus! This was the dinner that ended up conflicting with our Bayern Munich game. Melanie said they would make sure we got our food right away so we would have time to eat and run out early. We appreciated that.

I wasn’t sure I could bring my big camera to the game, so phone pictures it was!

The beers were giant here!

Here’s our dinner:

Then we had to head out! Here’s some of the fun that happened after we left!

We walked to the subway station and hopped on.

Here we were! The Allianz stadium!

Football selfie!

It was soooooo hot in that stadium. But we were almost used to the incredible heat at this point.

No, that’s a lie. You can’t get used to it.

At one point everyone got out signs form underneath their chairs and held them up. This was the result!

At some point during the game, some of those signs we used earlier were being folded into paper airplanes and sent flying around the crowd.

When one came from the top and started making its way all the way down to field, the crowd noticed it and the cheers got louder and louder as we realized it was going to make it! All the way to the middle of the stadium!

Very impressive, if not a little disruptive.

We stayed to the end, Bayern Munich won and it was great fun!

We walked to the subway with the mass of humanity and didn’t have to wait too long for one. We were crammed in there!

When we got back, I was starving. We passed a McDonald’s and stopped for fries! Predictable Americans.

We finally made it to Bed at 11:45! Crazy for us!
