Day 8 – Kirkwall

Today I was sleeping hard when our alarm went off at 8.

It was a nice day!

We had breakfast in Lumieres.

We were just going to explore the town today, so we were in no hurry! We caught the shuttle into town.

On the shuttle!

I wanted to go to the water to see if I could get a picture of the Magic. Whoops. Wide angle lens! She’s tiny!

This white car cracked us up. Look inside. Can you see it?

Ha!

Of course the dog was in the passengers seat, but to our American eyes, it sure looked like he was driving!

Kirkwall was excited to see us!

See?

Our main goal today was St. Magnus Cathedral. They had a traveling Poppy display commemorating the biggest naval engagement of World War I.

So pretty!

We walked around a little more before heading back to the shuttle!

There were a ton of people using the visitors center wifi. They needed a friend like Jeb.

I was trying to get a picture of the Magic in port, so Stephen and I walked a little ways out to take one.

It was lunch time when we got back on! We got food on deck 10 and sat in the sun to eat.

There’s the town over there:

This afternoon was the perfect time for laundry! So we washed clothes and watched movies in the room. I went to retrieve the clothes at one point and somehow two of Stephen’s socks were missing. He was quite distraught (and accusatory) over the loss of his beloved socks.

We watched that two dad’s movie with Mark Wahlberg and Will Farrell, I forget the name. There was a hilarious Frozen reference at one point.

At some point we heard bagpipes playing and realized they were real! Ack! There they were!

And Irish dancers!

Our verandah neighbors were hilarious. They loved to yell encouraging things to the crowds. They yelled things like, “You’re beautiful!” and “That was amazing!” At one point they tried to organize all the verandah watchers around them to yell “Thank you” on three. We were quite amused by this.

And finally we were off!

The scenery was beautiful on the way out!

Our fruit was also delivered today!

We went to dinner where our servers so sad we didn’t come the night before! I only had my phone again!

After dinner we went back to the room but stopped on deck 4 to see what was out there.

We found some fog!

Tonight we were so torn. I really wanted to see Alton Fitzgerald White, but we were also dying to see Captain America and we didn’t know if it would be back on! So Chris Evans won. I’m so ashamed.

Emojis for Captain America?

We went up on deck for ice cream after the movie and saw this amazing sunset!

The girls were working on winged eyeliner and eating ice cream. Very important.

We all read for a while and went to bed around midnight! Man!

But it was a sea day tomorrow, so we were good!
