Day 6 – Newcastle!

I woke up at 7.  Not bad!

My word it was gorgeous out!

I woke the girls up and let them know Jeb was back! Erin immediately said – “Blessed.”

Lol

We ate room service and then I went up top to take pictures!

We’re off!

We had hired a private driver today, and he was waiting for us right outside the gate! In the car! A Mercedes by the way.

We had a long ride to our first stop – Lindisfarne! This was pretty typical of the countryside. With about a bazillion sheep along the way.

Lindisfarne is very interesting. It’s connected to the mainland whenever the tide is out, and it’s an island when it comes in! There were a lot of warnings about not getting stuck out there!

This is with the tide out and we are driving across.

Our driver parked and told us he’d be waiting for us whenever we came back. We wandered into town.

Inside St. Mary’s church:

This was behind the church, and we quickly realized we needed to go to there!

We saw several little crabs and what not in the tide pools.

Looking back:

There were soooo many seals swimming by. A wide angle lens is not the best way to get a picture of them, but there were a lot!

See all their little heads?

We walked back over and climbed the hill.

Ally loved this dog.

Back in town.

We stopped in a store for snacks! Ice cream!

Amazing shortbread:

Back in the car! The girls snoozed.

Our next stop was Alnwick castle. Parts of Harry Potter and Downton Abbey were filmed here! The driver parked outside.

We’re in!

Our first stop was food though!

Now it was time to explore! Here’s an explanation of the Downton scenes.

Can you not see the broom instructions from Harry Potter being filmed here?

My daughter. Aka the photobomber.

There were a lot of costumes and sets from Downton inside the castle, but no pictures!

There were broom instructions going on in the courtyard.

Not staged at all.

Let us out!

These two look familiar!

We went back over to the courtyard and something called Dragon Quest!

There was a crazy hall of mirrors, scary walk through thing.

Appropriate.

Look at this ad. Can you imagine having your wedding here?

There was another ad that said it was “Probably the best castle in the world.”

Probably. Lol.

We walked through the gift shop and went back out to meet our driver and head back to the ship. We may have had time for one more stop, but we like to leave ourselves lots of wiggle room!

Our driver took a group pic when we got back!

Then we had naps. I woke up when we started moving. Newcastle was soooo excited we were there. People lined the shore for miles waving at us and yelling.

At one point there was a large group of teenagers yelling some not so family friendly words. Oy. They lined the shore all the way out! Even at the lighthouse!

Goodbye, Newcastle! It was awesome!

Next it was time for dinner in Carioca’s. We left the room so quickly I forgot my camera! Fail!

The girls and The Pneumonia were coloring.

Tonight was everyone’s favorite night, napkin hat night! And me without my camera! Good grief.

Dumbo!

After dinner we went back to the room for a few minutes.

Towel animal!

We were going to see another movie tonight! We saw a lot of movies on this cruise!

More value for our cruise dollar, right? Emoji for Zootopia?

It was so so foggy out! The horn was legit sounding because of the fog.

We realized today that we failed by not bringing snacks! I ordered some Big Island cookies for the next day. Whaaa? No Big Island Cookies!! Oh no! Little cookies would have to do. We call the cookies we take on excursions – survival cookies. That’s legit right?

We all read for a while and then finally went to sleep! It was a long day, but super fun!
