Day 6 – Cozumel

Today was our first day in a non-private-island port, so we had to wear masks again!  It’s amazing how quickly we got used to never wearing them, and how hard it was to put them back on!

We woke up at 7:30, and I grabbed my mug to go get Coke.  Uh…

No Coke!  Because the Freestyle machines were not self serve, they weren’t open all the time because no one was there to serve them.

Apparently Royal Caribbean doesn’t think people drink Coke before 10.

Royal Caribbean is wrong.

We had a few overcast days the next few days.  It didn’t hurt our fun, but it did hurt my picture quality!

Grey skies! Some people were disembarking with luggage. We weren’t sure what was happening there.

We got ready and went to Windjammers for breakfast. According to my phone pictures, I had Fruit Loops.

I can assure you, I also had breakfast potatoes.

Then we were off!

We were taking an excursion to Playa Mia today. When we first booked the cruise, we were told we would probably have to stick to official excursions, so we picked some. That changed before we left, but we decided to keep them.

I have done several excursions in Cozumel, but hadn’t tried Playa Mia! So I was excited to try it.

We walked to our meeting place.

We checked in and still had lots of time, so we wandered a little.

Ready for the beach!

We ended up waiting under this little covered area while the nearby shops tried to entice us to come in. Debbie went in one while I waited.

Then we sanitized our hands about 12 more times, (seriously, everyone we encountered gave us hand sanitizer) and we boarded the bus.

Here we are!

Here’s more information:

Everything looked a little dreary because of the grey skies. That wasn’t their fault though!

They took us down to some chairs, and sanitized them for us. Our view was a little industrial:

I started a tab for Diet Coke!

There was a covered restaurant behind us.

We hadn’t sat for too long before a torrential downpour started. We were very grateful for that covered area!

We had an early lunch while we were waiting for the rain to end. Debbie walked to the chocolate store and got a coffee of some kind which ended up being mostly chocolate.

Which is not a bad thing!

I had tacos.

The rain stopped, and we went back to the chairs. And we paid all of $4 for an umbrella!

We read and relaxed the rest of the afternoon, and it was quite nice!

So I liked Playa Mia, but I didn’t love Playa Mia.

We weren’t far from Paradise Beach which we’ve visited several times, and I actually preferred. But it definitely wasn’t a bad way to spend a day!

We shopped for a little while before catching the bus back to the ship. SD-14 got a Ukulele!

We showered, and then it was dinner time!

I had French onion soup.

And lasagna!

Debbie’s dessert:

Mine:

We wandered the ship for a little while.

Tonight we went to the show, which was a ballroom dancing and singing show. We liked it!

Then we went to do some dancing ourselves. And we discovered the Switched On Band. Who we LOVED.

The lead singer was absolutely amazing. She sang everything from the Carpenters to Justin Timberlake, to Pat Benatar, to Abba, to Whitney Houston. And nailed every single one. I mean nailed!

We became instant groupies and never missed any of their performances after that!

Here’s video proof of her talent:

We danced social distance style while we listened. Royal was very smart and put spotlights on the floor. When you wanted to dance, you found a spotlight and went to town!

I left Debbie dancing her heart out for a second Zoom meeting. Which worked well again!

When I came back an hour later, she was still dancing!

So we danced a little more and made it until 11:15 before we had to call it. It was so fun!
