Day 2 – Kennedy Space Center

Today we were off to NASA! Stephen was working with NASA all day and he left early for the Cape in his rental car.

Good morning, Beach Club!

I saw Stephen walking off in his uniform pulling his bag and realized about a second too late what a great picture that would have been! I grabbed my camera, but he was walking too fast. Dang it, Joan!

Speaking of Joan, there’s my parent’s balcony. They had a great one! It wrapped around!

We met downstairs for breakfast and ate in the Solarium. I had Mickey waffles and I have no idea where my picture went!

After we ate, we said goodbye to my parents who were headed to Hollywood Studios. My children picked a day at NASA over the parks! icq_smiley_040

We drove over to the cape and Chase kept me company while the girls slept. Stephen was texting us saying he was about to get a helicopter tour over NASA.

Dude. So jealous.

When we got there, we parked and I got in line to buy tickets. While we were in line I heard a helicopter coming. I am sure I looked like a crazy person trying to take a picture of it.

He sent us some pictures from the sky. He actually got the kids in one of his pics:

Uh yeah. I don’t have any words for this one.

And I almost died at this one. My word, he was up there with a phone to take pictures. A phone!!!!

Can you imagine the picture I could have gotten with my DSLR?!!

Breathe. Just breathe.

Okay, back to the report!

We’re in!

There was so much to see!

We started off playing some games. Chase was docking –

Well done!

We walked up to the memorial for lost astronauts next.

Then it was time for our tour!

We stopped to look at one of the launch pads from the safe zone.

Well look what I see in the other direction!

I kept seeing dolphins in the water as we drove and my children kept not believing me.

SpaceX!

Cutie!

Cuties!

This was massive!

We were all getting tired, and almost skipped the space shuttle, but I’m glad we didn’t!

I took a picture of this one because I sat next to one of these astronauts for a couple of days at a recent conference. It was way cool.

Then we played games.

We finished about the same time as Stephen and tried to meet up for the drive to our lodging at Patrick Air Force Base, but it didn’t quite work.

We finally just decided to meet at the base. While we were driving down the cape we passed the Dream. It’s so exciting!

She was moving when we passed and we kind of followed her. I was dying to stop and take a picture, but I didn’t think that would go over well. gahhhh

We met on base and Stephen checked us in. Then we drove to our house and I kept catching glimpses of the Dream through the buildings. When we pulled up to our house, I realized we would be able to see her from our backyard!!

When we parked, I jumped out of the car and grabbed my camera. I yelled something at Stephen about seeing the Dream and took off through the house. I found the back door and ran out!

Ackkkk!! She was out there!

Ack! I needed my bigger lens!

Oh well, still cool!

After all of that excitement, we were starving. We looked at some options and decided we didn’t want to go far. So we just went to the chow hall on base!

We stopped at the commissary (grocery store) and got some snacks and breakfast.

We came back to the room after and played Wizard. We used kisses to bet with.

The next morning we had set up a limo to pick up my parents. My sister and parents, who were tormenting me and eating at Homecoming (!), were texting me. My sister and family were driving to the port the next day, and Dad and Mom thought they were on Disney transfers. Dad was worried about their pick up time and was pretty insistent that he needed to put his luggage out. I tried to tell him it was something new and they were just supposed to take it to the bus, but he wasn’t buying it. I finally sent him this.

Ha! Well at least The Pnuemonia would still be surprised!

We all eventually went to bed and got a decent night’s sleep! Sailing away tomorrow!
