Day 2- All Aboard!

It doesn’t stay dark for very long in Denmark, and at 4 am, we were wide awake! We sat around for a little while and then realized it was our chance to see the Little Mermaid statue up close!

So we showered and headed out.

We were literally the only people outside. We took a few steps towards the Little Mermaid and then realized Nyhavn would be empty! So we went there first!

Here’s the ice cream place from the night before. Such fond memories!

We’re here! Look how empty!

Same pics as last night, minus the people!

We passed one couple who was sitting and eating pizza (at 5 am) and they asked if we had just woken up or been up all night. We said just woke up! They asked if it was jet lag, and we said absolutely!

We all agreed that these guys on the left (bachelor party?) had never been to bed!

After taking a million or so pictures, we started walking towards the Little Mermaid.

Backside of our hotel on the left:

As we got close, I was super excited to see there wasn’t a soul there!! Woohoo!!

I resisted the urge to climb up and sit next to her. Haha!

Den lille havfrue!

While we were at the statue, we realized that we may be able to see the Magic sailing in! We walked further down to a bench and sat down. We kept waiting for it to sail in from the right side. Stephen was watching it on the tracker and after a while said it should be right in front of us! Where was it?

Then I realized she had sailed right into the “middle” of our view so to speak and was already there!

Look!!! Can you see her?

I had the wide angle lens on, so I failed there.

Well that was super cool! What a great way to spend a morning! I am now hopeful that we wake up early every time we travel to Europe so we can recreate that experience in other cities!

We started walking back.

The guards were awake!

At this point we’d been up for a few hours and I was starting to NEED a Coke! Of any kind! Every place we walked by was closed! We saw some great looking breakfast places! But closed. Shoot!

We stopped by the front desk at the hotel to see if they knew anywhere I could buy a coke. Most people in Denmark spoke English, but the desk clerk didn’t. He didn’t quite know what I was asking so he went and found someone. They were speaking to each other and saying a lot of things I didn’t understand until I heard one of them say something that sounded like “Mini Bar”.

I said, “Oh!” I forgot there was a mini bar in our room!” Perfect!

And that was how I unwittingly tried the new Coke Zero way before it was released in America! I actually wasn’t sure what I was drinking. The ingredients were not in English, it was called Coke Zero Sugar, and so I was afraid I was drinking Coke Zero – with real sugar!

I remember thinking it was sweeter, so I definitely thought it had sugar in it.

But it was much needed and so delicious at the time!

We were meeting up with the parents at 10, so we walked over to see my parent’s room a little before then.

They had a giant two story room with a conference table!

We caught a taxi for a short ride to the port. Disney Magic, here we come!

Stephen’s dad was awfully hard to find in that jacket:

We checked in and checked on upgrades! Concierge was about a $3k upgrade as I recalled. I wanted it bad, but not quite that bad.

So we sat!

Mickey came!

Before long it was time to go! Woohoo!

My dad was a little sad (or a lot) when he found out that Carioca’s was no longer a buffet on embarkation day. Embarkation lunch is his favorite meal of the cruise. Literally. We decided to go to Cabanas with a bit of hesitation.

But it was empty! And it had all of Dad’s favorites! Maybe even a little more. Woohoo!

We walked around for a little after lunch and our room was ready not too long after.

Quick phone pic!

Stephen and I were in the lobby when Tom and Sarah Bricker walked in. They had some serious problems with their flights and it looked a little iffy that they would make it for a while! I was so relieved to see them!

We chatted for a while and heard some of their travel stories. Tom’s luggage was MIA, and hopefully would catch up to us at a later port!

I think we relaxed in the room for a little while after. Stephen probably forced me to watch Mary Poppins. I’m not going to lie. It’s not my favorite.

Love the idea and the sentimentality of it. But my word it’s boring!!

I told Stephen it would be greatly improved with dinosaurs. He was slightly scandalized.

It had started to rain a little, so the sail away party was indoors today.

We went out on deck 4 and then our verandah to watch the actual sail away.

Hey, I know those people!

Dinner was in Carioca’s tonight!

I took some phone pics of food:

It was still light out after dinner, so we walked around.

Sunset!

Then we stopped by the store and went back to the room.

Towel animal!

Looks like Stephen had the pie of the day from room service!

And then it was bedtime! Hopefully we would sleep a little later tomorrow! Thanks for reading!
