Day 17 – London Baby!

We all agreed to sleep in this morning, and we woke up fairly late.  Breakfast was included and was over at 10:30, so we were up by then.  Breakfast was good!  Two of the offerings were baked beans and mushrooms though.

No. No. No.

Our hotel was about 2 miles from the nearest Underground station, so we caught the bus right outside.  At the Underground we bought two day passes that included busses.  Including the bus we just got off.  Oops.

Here’s the Underground!  Mind the Gap, people.

We decided our first stop was Wimbledon! Not that we had tickets of course, although I did look on Stub Hub and we could have purchased them for a mere 350 pounds.

We really just wanted to see what we could see and maybe even check the queue for the grounds. Look at the awesome Underground stop for Wimbledon!

We started walking. I was a little worried about Mom and how much walking we had planned for the next two days. She held up pretty well though!

We found the standby queue and it was – wait for it – 6 – 8 hours long. Hours!

There was no way we were spending one of our two days in London waiting in line. So we walked around.

The queue was long but it had lots to do apparently!

Reporters:

The excitement in the air was palpable. The security guards were so polite. It was a great atmosphere.

Scoreboard!

Awesome topiary:

And that was Wimbledon. I was really glad we saw it.

We got back on the Underground pretty hungry. We decided to go downtown to find some food, but at one stop I realized we were right next to a mall. I told everyone to jump off and we did!

No, not so we could shop! Because I knew shopping malls also meant food.

We found a pizza place that was expensive, but very yummy. Here’s the view from the table:

After eating my parents got some Krispy Kremes to go in the mall.

There was also a Ben and Jerry’s but we passed. Back to the Underground!

We have a lot of pictures of us sitting and waiting for public transportation.

We got back on the metro and got off on another whim. This was the stop for Harrods!

So. Glad. We got off.

Harrods was bar none, the most amazing store I have ever been in. I’m pretty sure they had every single thing a person could ever want. They had a hovercraft for Pete’s sake.

There it is up ahead. Look at that! What store looks like that?

The first floor had food and chocolate for days:

The escalators were amazing!

They also had a TV that blew us away. It was around the price of a car and had a picture better than real life. It had a crowd gathering

The toy section was completely awesome.

If Ally was still little, I would have left this store several hundred pounds lighter. Not pounds, pounds.

Monsters!

This was snow! Just add water. I can’t tell you how much it felt like the real thing:

This was a DKNY sheepskin jacket for little girls that cost hundreds of pounds.

The Disney section was also great:

Back out!

After a little more walking, we decided Mom needed a break and we wanted to try a double decker bus! Unfortunately the ones with the open tops were tour busses.

We knew our next destination. Platform 9 ¾! Yay!

We’ve always been huge Harry Potter fans and we weren’t missing this. We took the Underground to Kings Cross.

Platform 9 ¾ was actually outside of the turnstyles now. They’ve turned it into quite the destination! There was a line to take pictures.

There was also a store (of course) and Ally (the biggest Harry Potter fan of all) bought a sweatshirt and a really great poster. It’s the entire text of book one all printed on one poster.

The next stop was for Chase! Nike. See? He has a bag!

After a little more shopping we walked to a spaghetti restaurant. It was great! I don’ t know why I didn’t took any pictures of food!

I love this picture:

Then we stopped at a giant Apple store.

We also took a spin through TopShop but didn’t buy anything. After we finished shopping, we caught the Underground back to Big Ben.

London at night. Sigh. I took about 400 pictures of Big Ben and the Eye. #aintnobodygottimeforthat

So here are just a few!

I wasn’t the only tourist taking pictures of course!

After that it was bed time! So back to the hotel we went!
