Day 13 – Segways in Malta

Valletta!  I was super excited about this port!  We had something so fun planned for today!!  What, you ask?

We were doing – Segways!!!

Yay!

We booked these directly through the company – Segways by Malta.  We did it that way for a couple of reasons.  One, it was about half the price.  Two, Ally wasn’t old enough if we booked through Disney.  Disney wanted guests to be 16.

Alright, make me save money!

Breakfast at Topsiders first!

Hello, Malta!

We met the company outside the port.

We waited quite a while for the other three people on our tour and finally he just sent us on. It ended up they were waiting in the wrong place and they caught up with us at our starting point. To kill some time while we waited for them, the driver took us to the cliffs.

Alice and The Pneumonia:

After a few minutes there, we went to a giant garage type place where all the Segways were. We signed releases, got helmets and then he gave us about 2 minutes of instruction.

We all took a spin to try them out and then zipped out the door. He kept telling us how easy it was. I didn’t believe him. My Mom’s face says she didn’t either.

Chase:

There goes bil!

Alice!

Well I was wrong.

It was a very weird feeling at first, but it literally took about 90 seconds to feel comfortable.

Those Segways were amazing. We all decided it was the best way to sightsee. We zipped around outside waiting for everyone to get on theirs:

This is Stephen telling me not to take pictures while in motion. Now how boring would this trip report be if I listened to that?!

Here we go!

My pictures once we started riding were all over the place! I basically put one hand up and snapped! This one was pretty good though! I got myself in the mirror!

We rode for about 30 minutes and he pulled over.. I was glad he did because I was worried about Mom getting tired. My feet were aching a little. Mom got off and sat for a while and I figured out I needed to move my feet every so often to not get sore.

We started going again with a few breaks here and there. We pulled over in a field at one point where he let everyone race around the field to their heart’s content.

The family of three that was with us told us they had done the Segways at Disney where the top speed was 6 miles an hour. These babies went 24!! 24!!

Our view from the field:

She’s got it now!

On the road again!

At our next stop (which were the same cliffs we had stopped at before) I was overjoyed to see – snacks!! Yay! I was so hungry. I had the best Snickers bar of my life there in Malta.

There were cars down there!

Cliff selfie!

My kiddos:

They’re so shy:

Back up, Chase!

This is what Segways do when you’re not riding.

When we were done, we got back on and waited for everyone else. Chase saw the empty traffic circle and asked if he could go zip around it. I had no sooner said, “No, we better not” when I looked over to see my Dad take off to the circle and start zipping around. Okay, never mind…

At some point as we were riding beside these cliffs, it kind of hit me. We were in Malta. On Segways. How cool was that?

We stopped again:

Back in town. Luckily it was during the afternoon siesta, so the streets were empty:

The 2 hour tour ended much quicker then we would have liked. No one wanted to give up their Segway.

The transfer bus couldn’t find us and we ended up waiting about 30 minutes for him. No biggie. Once we started riding we were listening to an excellent radio station called “Magic Malta”. If you’re ever in Malta and are looking for a radio station, I just helped you out.

The bus dropped us off in Valetta.

We walked for a little while and came across a McDonalds which had – free Wi-Fi! Yay! Look at these crazy burgers!

We ordered some food and camped out. Mom was especially excited to get on Facebook since she hadn’t had a chance yet. We looked pretty funny with all 9 of us sitting there on our phones ignoring each other. Facebook exploded with Malta pictures.

My burger:

Dad and Mom went back after that and we walked around for a little while.

We found the gardens up top.

We were thrilled to find that they’d put in an elevator since the last time we were there! We took this baby down like 20 stories (?) and were back at ground level with the port. Look at this thing:

We walked around the cafes near the port for a little while and then got back onboard.

Is it just me, or does this not look right?

There were 4 people late tonight because we heard several announcements asking for them to check in! I hope they made it!

We went up top to see the ship sail through the city as we were leaving:

Dinner was in Animators tonight and it was semi-formal night.

Fru. Fru.

I love this chicken and pasta:

Dessert!

This was delicious:

Ally’s standard dessert:

I went back to the room after dinner and Stephen and his Dad went to the educational lecture for the night.

Afterwards we all went to see the show. It was a variety act named Alfred and Seymour. The show was – Hi. Lar. I. Ous. Seriously one of the funniest shows I have ever seen onboard.

They announced that Alfred and Seymour would be doing the adult show the next night and to make sure everyone could get in, it would be in the Walt Disney Theater. I’ve never seen them do that before!

After the show, we stopped by the room and never left. Bedtime!
