Day 6 – Stingray City

Grand Cayman! Today we had a do-over excursion booked. Last time we were in Grand Cayman we booked with Native Way and had our own private boat out to Starfish Point and Stingray City. We had a great time, but the waves were SO rough at Stingray City! Most were over my head so I was jumping in the water and trying to keep an eye on all the stingrays around me. You can imagine you don’t really want to be jumping around stingrays.  But like I said, I still had a great time so I was all in for trying it again!

Unfortunately Chase had been throwing up during the night so we knew he wasn’t going to make it. :(Stephen decided to stay with him and take him to the ship’s doctor if he wasn’t better when he woke up.

Ally and I got ready in our dark stateroom. While getting our stuff ready, I realized I didn’t bring my waterproof camera because I was counting on using Chase’s GoPro. Shoot!

I wasn’t sure where the GoPro was, if it was charged, and if I even knew how to use it! I certainly wasn’t going to wake him up to ask. Ally said I could use her phone since she had her waterproof Lifeproof case on it.

Excellent. Problem solved!

Ally and I grabbed quick breakfast and met the rest of the family for tendering. We had waited a loooong time to tender last time (maybe 45 minutes?) so we agreed to line up early and give ourselves plenty of time.

When we got to the theater to line up, the theater was – empty! Totally empty! There were like 5 people in front of us! Yay!

We were on a tender in no time!

Hello, gorgeous.

We found our driver pretty easily, but he said there was a small problem and asked if I would talk to his boss on the phone. Apparently they had double booked (not booked?) a family of 4 from our ship that they needed to get on one of their boats. They asked if we would mind if they joined us and they would give us $100 back. $100 didn’t work out to that much per person for us, but we really didn’t mind.

Not to mention I would have felt pretty heartless making this family miss their excursion.

Our one hesitation was that the teenage daughter did not look well. Like her mom was fanning her and holding cold towels on her neck! That made my SIL pretty nervous. We didn’t need any more sickies!

I crossed my fingers and we were off!

On the boat! See the wet towel on her neck? Mom fanning her?

King of the world!

My dad was relaxed.

Our first stop today was Stingray City and look at this water.

Gorgeous!

Some of us were a little skittish, but everyone made it in at some point!

My nieces were screaming a little, but they were in!

One of my nieces had enough!

Ack!

There were a few other boats around, not too many.

Ally finally got in. It took some coaxing and hand holding.

About three minutes later, Ally was out and took over camera duties from the boat.

I got in and took pictures with her phone. I’m in the white hat.

I was taking pictures like crazy!

Everyone kissed stingrays, petted them, fed them, etc. I took pictures of it all! If you don’t see my hands, they’re underwater with the phone! There’s a reason you won’t see any of those pictures in my report.  We’ll get to that later…

See? I’m taking pictures!

Pictures! All over it!

Look, I’m taking an amazing underwater picture of a stingray here:

Ally was doing a pretty good job from the boat as well!

Then I was back onboard! That was amazing. It was the perfect day there. I was so sad Chase and Stephen missed it!

We all got back onboard and were off to our next stop for some snorkeling!

We lived!

Goodbye, stingrays!

Snorkeling stop!

Stylin’!

The Pneumonia snorkels!

I got in and took a few snorkeling pictures before I couldn’t see the screen anymore. I thought maybe I had accidentally turned the brightness down, or just really needed my glasses in the bright sun, but I decided to get back onboard just in case.

I got out and looked at the phone – and there was water in the case. Salt water of course.

Oh. Snap.

Ally’s phone was 3 months old. And what the what, Lifeproof?!!!

There may have been some blame and ugly looks tossed my way at this point, but I’m sure as the blamer is reading this she now feels bad for her accusations, knowing that all I did was take her phone as instructed and take pictures!

I assured her it would be okay (one way or another) and put the phone out in the sun to dry. The saddest part for me wasn’t buying Ally a new phone, it was the pictures!!

Would I ever get those pictures back?!! The answer sadly is no.

The phone never again came to life. Rest in peace, Ally’s phone.

Ah well. Nothing could be done about it now.

We went to Starfish point after snorkeling. The last time we were here the starfish were everywhere. This time they were harder to find, but we did.

And then we were back onboard, tired and happy. It was such a fun day (except for that whole phone thing)!

Back to the tender!

We got back to the ship and dropped off our stuff. I grabbed a Wave Phone to find Stephen and Chase. They were at Cabanas! That was a good sign!

They were sitting outside. Chase wasn’t his normal self yet, but he was better. Yay!

I had chicken fingers:

And ice cream, of course.

I took some pictures on my way back to the room to shower.

After we showered most of us went to see Hundred Foot Journey. It was a great movie! We all liked it!

After the movie we went to change again because tonight was Palo! Woot woot!

We said goodbye to the kids but Chase and my oldest niece were joining us in Palo! It was her first time. Chase still wasn’t really hungry. He said he was basically there for the chocolate soufflé.

Can’t fault that logic.

We had the private room, and Andrea as our server. Andrea is wonderful and we have had her before in the private room.

First timer!

I got the mushroom risotto as an appetizer.

Here’s my amazing filet.

Scallops!

Soufflé! Yay!

More desert!

The kids went to a movie after dinner.

I don’t know what we did?

It was a pretty rocky night while we slept. I don’t mind that when I’m laying down, but it made me worry for the next day’s weather!

Up tomorrow – Thanksgiving in Cozumel! Thanks for reading!
