Day 1 – Luggage Problems Galore

I woke up at 3:30 for my crazy early flight today. I remembered what happened a few weeks before when I woke up that early for a flight (see my abbreviated Adventures by Disney trip report) so the first thing I did was jump up, turn on the bathroom light, and then got back into bed. I checked phone messages for about 10 minutes to give anything that may be creeping around in there time to hide!

Finally I, very cautiously, got out of bed and went to shower. Phew! All clear!

I had a very long flight today, and a very nice couple next to me. Well the wife felt very strongly about animals. Animals of all kinds!  She literally talked for the entire 4 hours telling me about various shelters in the area where we could volunteer, stories of animal persecution, stories of cute animals, you name it. And she gave me her animal magazines to take with me.

She also loaned me her scarf at one point when I was freezing which I used as a blanket and greatly appreciated that! 🙂

Finally we landed! I put on my fancied up Magic Band and I was off to DME!

When I was boarding the bus, I told them I wanted to grab my laptop out of my bag and then give him my carryon. The driver said laptops weren’t allowed under the bus anyway.

Ooookay.

I was texting Kris as I was approaching to update her so she was waiting outside the Contemporary when I pulled up! I wanted to run over and hug her and say hi, but the couple in front of me were taking my bag!

Ack!

I hugged Kris and said, “Hold on!” and jogged a few steps to catch them. They were so embarrassed.

Sadly, that wasn’t my last trouble with luggage this weekend..

We went up to the room and I dropped off my carryon. Here’s the view!

Kris was so sweet and even bought me some Coke Zero at the store! Yay!

We headed down to check in and visit the store next. There was some great memorabilia on display:

Look at these super cool Magic Bands they gave us!

We’d heard the line for merchandise was a couple of hours long earlier in the day, but thankfully it had calmed down by now.

Here are some things I was tempted to buy but didn’t. I settled for phone pics!

Some items were definitely running low, but I found a T-shirt, jacket, hat and some items for our giveaways on social media. Overall I did pretty well!

And wow, my rewards card that seemed to have so much money on it, was used up in one fell swoop!

We dropped off our purchases in the room and were off for the Studios next. Love the Contemporary tree!

We went right back to the Osborne Lights. I have to say, every time I see them they take my breath away. What I wouldn’t give for my tripod and an empty street.

I was fairly starving by this time and I got a cookie once we go there. I must have eaten it so fast I didn’t even take a picture.

After we soaked up our fill of the lights, we walked over to Toy Story to use our Fastpasses. Love that ride.

We had planned on watching the fireworks from Top of the World Lounge, so we left for the Contemporary next.

When we got back to our room I realized my suitcase wasn’t there. Hmmm. I landed about 5 hours ago. That’s kind of weird!

I called and they said they would check on my bag.

I had no suitcase, but I did have quite an assortment of Magic Bands!

We walked over to Top of the World and enjoyed an amazing view of the fireworks! I didn’t even take my camera, but I did take a phone pic!

My cousins were leaving WDW today and I’d been texting them. They were watching fireworks from Ohana so they were going to jump on the monorail and meet us in the Contemporary. We popped into the room first and –  no suitcase. And the phone had two messages. That’s not a good sign!

No sign of my suitcase yet. The hotel manager asked if I needed anything. Um yes. Everything. Lol

The stores had just closed so they got my size and told me they would bring some pajamas and tooth brush. I said I would be by the monorail entrance and to meet me there.

We met up with my cousin at the Frozen gingerbread!

My cousin’s family had a great time in the past week and their daughter was proposed to in front of the castle. They had quite a funny story about her boyfriend booking a romantic fireworks cruise to propose and he accidentally booked the Pirates and Pals cruise instead! But he regrouped and the castle worked the next day!

We talked for about 30 minutes and then said goodbye and goodnight. At some point the hotel manager met me with my lovely new pjs and toothbrush.

It was late but they promised to leave a message during the night with an update on my suitcase!

The Electric Water Pageant was happening!

Tomorrow is a conference day!
