Day 4 – Key West for the First Time!

I slept until 9! It was glorious!

We were meeting everyone for lunch before we disembarked, so we decided to go get a light breakfast at Cabanas. Not the girls! They were meeting at Lumiere’s. They could not be denied their big breakfast. And Chase was still snoozing. He’s a college student, he would much rather sleep than eat.  🙂

Here’s mine.  It was mostly breakfast potatoes of course:

The germ alert must have been high because we were given a second set of wipes to use to hold the tongs at the buffet.

Stephen and I walked around the ship after eating.

The AquaDunk was already hopping! Don’t zoom in, this woman was having a slight wardrobe malfunction.

We saw one of our nephew’s playing bball:

While we were walking a couple of Navy aggressors buzzed the ship! They were pretty close but I had a wide angle lens on so they look far away.

Changing the flag:

We stopped by the room to make sure Chase was waking up and told him we would meet him in Cabanas for lunch. We hung out on deck 4 until it was time.

Lunch:

When we were walking back to the room, Chase told me when he turned on his phone there was some pretty horrific news from home waiting for him. Without getting into too many details it suddenly turned into a pretty teary morning.

I was thankful we were in a US port and Chase could stay in touch with his friends that day. I know that helped. We also knew there was absolutely nothing we could do at this point so we put it aside as best as we could and disembarked with everyone shortly thereafter.

We had a pretty subdued day in a lot of ways, but we were okay. It was good to be with our family and I was very glad to be with my kids.

We caught the tram into town, and they dropped us off by Mallory Square.

Look at that gorgeous water! And beautiful girl.

Cuties!

Megalodon!

Our only real goal for today was chocolate covered frozen key lime pie on a stick. We decided to walk to the Southern-most Point.

Look! There’s the Magic!

We passed the Little White House like we’d planned it.

The heat was sweltering at times.

Made it!

There was a line waiting to take pictures and we jumped in. I was fairly irritated when it was our turn up front and this man and his daughter were standing on the wall. Dude. Move! We waited in line! So I photoshopped him out. I didn’t do a great job, so don’t look too close!

Some of us got snow cones from a truck nearby and then we started walking back a different way. Here’s Ernest Hemmingway’s house:

And there we go! The end of Route 1. It starts in Maine, near Canada and ends in Key West.

Or begins in Key West, depending on your perspective!

And here we go –

I

took some Instagram pictures of the inside:

Sign:

Yes. It lived up to the hype.

Back out walking.

Ginormous cookies!!

When we got back to the trams, Chase wasn’t ready to leave Key West and I wasn’t ready to leave him, so he and I decided to walk around for another hour or so.

We found this great harbor and watched these giant fish and someone feeding them and the seagulls for a while.

These were huge!

The fish in the water were hard to see, but I’m not lying, many were 4 and 5 feet long.

We rounded the corner and saw –

Oh my goodness! I almost forgot about the Lily store!

We popped inside and Chase waited patiently while I tried on a dress that I didn’t buy. That day.

I may or may not have bought it online later…

We went in some T-shirt stores, the Tervis stores and a few more shops before we decided we were ready to go back. On the tram:

There she is!

When we got back we found out there had been a power outage onboard and the sprinklers systems went off outside BIL’s room. My sister was in the shower and said she couldn’t see her hand in front of her face when it went dark! Thankfully it didn’t last long.

We relaxed and then got ready for dinner. On our way up we stopped to see the beautiful sunset.

Tonight we were eating in Carioca’s!

My BIL got a non-alcoholic drink of the day which my nephew promptly stole.

This doesn’t look staged at all, right?

Empanadas!

There were so many things wrong in this soup. It was obviously not mine:

My children (and their grandmother) are notorious for balling up their straw wrappers and taking aim at your drink. This was how I protected mine:

Yum!

Stephen had meat on a stick!

Ellie also ate meat on a stick!

After we ate, our servers started making crazy hats for us.

Dessert:

Here’s my crazy hat selfie:

Stephen loves his, can’t you tell?

More dessert:

Chase has a Peter Pan thing happening.

Group shot! Taken by Dad who is not in it and I think managed to escape a crazy hat:

That was a fun dinner! We went back to the room to drop off my camera.

We went to the show and then Match Your Mate.

Girls cruisers, our host was Jo!! She is one of the funniest people alive I’ve decided.

The kids went to a movie and were back late again. I went to sleep around 1 and I think they were still out after me.
