Day 3 – Sea, Glorious Sea

Today I slept til 7:30, and Ally slept until 9.  The internet on Royal is so amazing, I just laid in bed and worked.

Then we went to breakfast in 270.

Afterwards we went up to the solarium. It was super foggy out today, the fog horn went off all night!

We got in the pool for about three minutes and then decided the hot tub was where we wanted to be.

While we sat, I took some pictures of the daily Compass:

After a few hours, we went back to the room to shower and order lunch from room service.

I forgot to take a picture of lunch, but I do know Ally spilled her guac all over the floor! Whoops!

We decided to head out and in search of snacks after that.

Ally got a hot chocolate and I got an Oreo cheesecake!

We went in search of the library after that, only to find it empty! Covid thing?

So we sat and watched a rehearsal in 270. It looked awesome! But they didn’t show it on our sailing.

We planned on going to trivia after that, but Ally was still getting her sea legs back, so we decided on a nap instead!

I photoshopped for a little while, and then fell asleep. While I was sleeping, I half-heard an announcement in the hall. I heard the saying “starboard”.

I was trying to figure out why they would be talking about starboard, when I realized what it must be –

WHALE!!

I jumped out of bed, and grabbed my camera. I saw the officers on the bridge gathered at the window and knew I was right.

A whale breached almost immediately! Ack!! It was so exciting!

Now here I have sad news. I have an amazing lens for Alaska. Amazing! But I lent it to Chase a few months ago!! He offered to give it back to me in July when I saw him, but I told him I didn’t have anything coming on the horizon that I would need it for, so I told him to keep it a little while longer. Whoops.

I only had my wide angle (16-35). Which makes things far away seem tiny! Like whales.

Look! Do you see him?

I will zoom! The picture quality will get bad, but you can see him at least!

Every time he came out, the whole side of the ship cheered!

Zoomed:

Well, that was super exciting. I was dying for Ally to wake up so I could tell her all about it.

After she woke up, we watched the Olympics for a little while and then we had dinner reservations at Chops! Specialty restaurants were also half off this week!

We’re here!

Ally is a lovely dinner companion, as expected.

Bread:

And this amazing bacon appetizer.

Ally had this appetizer:

Salad!

Ally had soup:

And then I COMPLETELY forgot to take pictures of our steaks. You know, the thing you go to Chops for. Steaks. Good heavens.

They were delicious though! So here’s dessert!

My favorite:

After we finished, we went to Kate Spade and discovered they were having an amazing sale. So we bought some things…

Then we went to 270 for the show. They had a violinist there, who was awesome. Also, it was a vaccinated space, so no masks!

Here were our purchases from earlier:

Then it was bedtime. Towel monkey!
