Day 1 – Travel Day

So, much like my Turks and Caicos trip last month, this one started with the uncertainty of a Covid test!

Turks required a particular kind of test (PCR/Non-Antigen), Hawaii would accept different kinds, but only from a list of approved providers! And while Turks had a five-day time limit, Hawaii only gives your three!

Yikes!

We investigated our options, and Vault was our best bet. Our back up was at the Denver airport as we were flying out!

We took our tests Monday night, and anxiously awaited our results which came back late Wednesday night! Now that was cutting it close!

Negative!

Phew! Because Negative is good in this case. It’s good!

Our flight was at a perfectly reasonable time of 1:00! That was very unlike us. But Southwest didn’t have that many options, and we definitely wanted Southwest for the flexibility.

We headed up to the airport around 10 am and parked the car in offsite parking.

We checked in and grabbed some food. Real men pull their wife’s purple suitcase.

Why does McDonalds always taste better in an airport?

Then we were off! To Oakland.

This was a long trip! The first flight was 2 1/2 hours. I read the whole time I think.

In Oakland we grabbed some food and caught our next flight. Scratch that. We tried to grab food.

Oakland airport was a wasteland for restaurants! So m&m’s it was.

Is anyone else completely offended by the book suggestions on their Kindle? What kind of books does Kindle think I read exactly?

We read a little and slept a little. Southwest passed out some slightly bigger snacks for this flight!

We landed at 9 pm! Which felt like midnight our time. So late! But we were in Hawaii! Woohoo!

We made it through the check points quickly, and I got our bags. Stephen grabbed the rental car and we were en route!

But then Stephen wanted to stop at a grocery store! Blurg.

Okay, I guess I did want to get some Coke Zero.

Then finally, back in the car for a few minutes, and we were there! Aloooooha!

Our room was perfect, our view was amazing! But we were exhausted. Tomorrow we would enjoy it!

One quick phone pic from our balcony. I promise tomorrow I would get out the real camera!

We fell asleep around 11.

I totally agree about McDonald’s in airports! Definitely better! And the same with Kindle suggestions. I don’t even bother looking at those if I can help it!
