Day 1 – On Our Way! To China?
And we were off! Tokyo Bound! Kind of.
We spent Saturday night in Los Angeles, and met Sherry there. Sunday morning, we slept in a little, and then Stephen took us to In ‘N Out Burger and a CVS for survival rations.
Then he dropped us off at the International terminal of LAX, which is very nice if you’ve never been!
When we were pricing flights, we were looking for the absolute cheapest option. And that was on Air China. Which meant we had a layover – in China!
We had a few people ask why on earth we were going to China on our way to Japan, and I will say it again – absolute cheapest option!
We checked in. We were traveling in just carry-ons!!! For 10 days!! That is huge for me! I was quite proud of myself.
Oh, but they weighed our carry-ons. And one weighed too much. So we had to check them! Ha! But still, the principle remained. We packed in carry-ons!
We made our way through TSA and had about an hour and a half to wait.
So wait, we did.
Aren’t we cute?
When it was time to board, we lined up by our seat numbers. Sherry was in a different group, so we split up for boarding.
We’re on!
We actually had a super long layover in Beijing, so we booked a hotel for the night!
Our flight was soooo long. Like 12 hours?
The selection of English movies was pretty limited, but I watched a couple. One comedy – Dumplin’, which was cute, and Aquaman which was badddd.
We had two meals, slept a little and read a lot.
At one point the woman next to me sneezed. I instinctively said, “Bless you”, and she actually laughed out loud.
Soooo… I guess they don’t do that in China! Noted.
When we landed, we made our way through customs, got our temporary Visas, and walked to the free airport shuttle.
We were crazy jet lagged and exhausted when we got to the hotel, so we pretty much wanted to go right to bed.
This hotel was gorgeous!! And look at our room! Oh my!
It was two stories, with two bedrooms, both identical.
Bathtub! Woohoo!
I did walk to the lounge with Sherry and we got some Cokes. They had some food, but our body clocks were all messed up, so we weren’t hungry.
Then we went back to the room and fell blissfully asleep. Well, Ally did, I took a bath and THEN fell asleep! Japan tomorrow!
