Day 5 – Lava and Bad Choices

Mistakes were made today.

We had breakfast at 7.

Today’s afternoon excursion that we chose included over 300 stairs! Oh my!

The morning excursion was a hike through the lava fields!

Which were super cool. Our guide asked if we wanted to get in the lava, and we thought he was joking.

Until he climbed down into a hole.

Well okay!

We could see the other groups around.

We saw some more of our friends taking funny pictures! So I took a picture, of course.

Hiking video!

Then we hopped on the zodiac and went back.

Here’s the snorkeling gear setup downstairs:

And more tiny sandwiches!! Woohoo!

Our laundry was back!

Next, we went to a navigation presentation. Stephen paid attention while I processed photos on my laptop and paid partial attention!

Lunch was a creole buffet today!

After that, we had time before snorkeling. Stephen wanted to nap and was not excited about snorkeling again. He didn’t want to get in the cold water today. I did! We decided to nap for just a little while.

Well, I napped hard, and when Stephen woke me up to go, I didn’t move. I knew he didn’t really want to, and I was so comfortable in that bed, so we skipped!

We did go down to get the hot chocolate after we woke up. Which we didn’t really earn, but still got.

Our friends came back then and said – IT WAS THE BEST SNORKELING OF THEIR LIVES.

I was like – DANG IT.

I meant – I’m so happy for you!

But DANG IT!!

They said they snorkeled with so many penguins, and sea lions, and the water wasn’t cold, and it was so clear, and it was amazing.

So I learned an important life lesson. Don’t skip the activities!!! Ever.

Make better choices than me, future Galapagos travelers.

Well we still had 380 steps to look forward to. So yay? Ha!

Okay, here we go.

Look, a sea lion greeted us!

There were more down on the beach!

The steps were not bad at all actually. There were lots of flat patches interspersed with them.

At the top of the stairs was the iconic Galapagos scene you often see when you google Galapagos.

And a lighthouse!

Hiking video!

An iguana saw us off.

Here’s the shoe scrubbing station –

There was always help off the zodiacs. Sometimes that help was really important when the swells were big!

I took this another day. You can see how much the zodiac was going up and down relative to the ship. The zodiac drivers were awesome!

Today the chef had chicken strips. I mean… I love this man.

When we got back to our room, we took showers (we have never showered more in our lives, this is why they do laundry for you!), and then went down to the lounge to hear a future cruise presentation. The sunset out our window was gorgeous!

We picked our excursions for the next day and had some cokes! All drinks, alcohol, specialty coffee, soda, etc. were included.

Then we went and had dinner under the stars!

They gave us blankets for our legs while we ate!

That was fun!

We had certificates waiting in our room. We crossed the equator! Again!

Then it was bedtime!
