Day 1 – Boarding With No Luggage

Day 1 – Boarding With No Luggage

The day had come!  Boarding day!  But with one wrinkle.  The day before, after a flight from Denver to Toronto to Frankfurt, I landed in Budapest!  I thought to check my air tag while we were taxiing and realized – my luggage never left Toronto.

Dang it, Joan!  And for the first time ever – I checked my camera.  Double dang it, Joan!  I was trying to cut down on carry-ons, and it was too heavy for my personal bag.  I took a chance, but I knew it was insured, so I was okay if it disappeared.  But when I thought through all of that, I didn’t take into account how sad I would be without it on the actual trip!

I had cute carry-ons though –

I filed a missing luggage report, met Ally, and we went on with our day in Budapest.

Mostly! Most of the day we ate up with shopping for some essentials for me. I didn’t find anything great, but I found some things! It was tricky not knowing how much I needed because I didn’t know when I would see my luggage again.  One day?  Three?  A week?

Our hotel that night was in an incredible location too. Right on the Fisherman’s Bastion. Our view was to die for. Phone pic!

And there was a wedding out our window! Good grief!

Oh look, there goes our ship out there to taunt me for having no camera…

At some point, I had to physically stop myself from saying, “I need my camera”. It was too painful.  And probably annoying to others.  Ha!

The next morning, we woke up and got ready to head to the ship. I checked with the airlines who told me my bag was on a flight and would be there in a couple of hours! They gave me the flight number and everything!

And yet – my air tag said it clearly was still sitting in Toronto.

DANG IT, JOAN!

Okay, it was time to get on with boarding day! We ate breakfast and took a taxi to the ship.

We dropped off our luggage and went to the lounge for some food. A river cruise doesn’t have a typical buffet lunch, they just bring some light snacks up to the lounge for you, which worked great for us!

There was pasta underneath all that foliage.

The Disney people leading our adventure were in the library, so I went over to meet up with them. One of them told me that the cruise manager would help with my luggage. Woot! It would be nice not to think about it anymore.

I went up to talk to him. His name was Peter, he was from Australia, and he was awesome. He was also hilarious! I told him my sad tale of woe, and he took all the info and took it from there! There were five rooms on our ship with no luggage! Ouch!

After we ate, we walked to a nearby mall to try to find a couple more things.

Hello, AmaViola!

I told Ally I was glad it was her with me, because Chase or Stephen may not have been so patient taking up days shopping! I found a couple of things, and we walked back. Our room was ready! I took a quick video and then vacated the room while Ally took a nap. Here’s the hallway:

There is never a shortage of water onboard!

I found a couple of other rooms open that no one was staying in and filmed them quickly too!

Then I went up top to sit.

I talked to a few fellow passengers and went back to the room when it was getting close to time for the Captain’s Reception. We got ready and went to the lounge.

Peter welcomed us all and introduced the captain and crew. He told us we needed to pick our excursions for the rest of the week (Nat Geo is different, most of the time you pick your excursions a few weeks before boarding) by the next day, and got us excited for everything that was coming.

Welcome champagne –

And our schedule that day:

Then we went down for dinner.

Where I took all phone pictures because I still had no camera! Painnnnnnful.

After dinner, we went to see the AmaMagna. At some point they moved our ship so the Magna could dock closer to the shore, because we were leaving earlier than them.

When you are on a river cruise, there are many ways on and off the ship depending on how many other ships are docked around or with you! The AmaMagna is a beautiful double-wide ship. We had to walk to the top of our ship, and across her to get off! It’s fun to see other ships. The AmaMagna has a pickleball court!

Here’s their pool –

Then we went back to the room and got ready for bed!

We have another day in Budapest tomorrow!
